Our medical staff consists of Peter Teitelbaum, MD, Robert Birnbaum, MD, Hasana Birk, RN, Jackie Levere, RN, and Elizabeth Meyer, RPN the first four of whom hold the Certificate of Travel Health. Jenn Witkowicz and Linda Gascon comprise the clinic management and office staff.
Peter Teitelbaum has been director of the clinic since its inception and medical consultant to the International Development Research Centre since 1977. He is a member of CATMAT, the Public Health Agency of Canada's tropical and travel medicine advisory committee.
Robert Birnbaum has been practicing travel medicine since 1978 and has travelled himself to 94 countries. He has worked in Lesotho and in Ethiopia and has been medical advisor to several NGO's including CUSO, WUSC, CARE, the Aga Khan Foundation of Canada and Doctors Without Borders and was a member of CATMAT for 8 years. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine of the University of Ottawa.
Hasana Birk has substantial experience in travel medicine. She is a former member of CATMAT and managed the Travellers' Health Services clinic in Edmonton, one of the country's largest, for eight years. She joined the clinic here in 2004.
Jackie Levere has travelled extensively and as a nursing student volunteered in Honduras. Subsequent to hospital work, she trained in travel medicine at our clinic. As are all our staff, she is a member of the International Society of Travel Medicine.
Elizabeth Meyer has been on staff at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, has worked in travel medicine at the Ottawa Hospital and with our clinic since 2016.
Jenn Witkowicz is clinic manager. She has been ably looking after all its administrative functions since 2005.
